The WebEssentials Series is a three-part class providing you with a broad brush overview of all the necessary parts for a successful website.

Part 1: The Basics (9hrs)

As a business owner, a website is a MUST regardless of what type of business you are in! If you don’t have one, it’s almost guaranteed that the competition will take your customers. Learn essential elements that are needed for a website.

The goals are:

  1. Understand how to recognize, design and write for your target market.
  2. Learn how to successfully market a website.
  3. Complete an outline for a website marketing plan.
  4. Create an outline / story board for your website.

Part 2: Introduction to Design, CSS & HTML (18hrs)

Today has simplified the process of creating a website, but there are still necessary fundamentals aspects to know in order to understand the technology and to create a well designed website.

This class will provide an introduction to web design, including image preparation, html and cascading stylesheets.

Pre-requisites: You need to know how to use a computer! Part 1: The Basics is strongly recommended

The goals are:

  1. Learn the principles of successful web design.
  2. Gain an introductory knowledge of html and cascading stylesheets.
  3. Create a single page template that can be used in a content management system or expanded into a website.

Part 3: Hands on with Content Management Systems (12hrs)

Today’s Web technology simplifies websites with the use of content management systems, blogs & ready to use shopping carts – all of which are fully customizable.

This class will provide hands on training to learn how to install these programs on a website and the basics of customizing them.

Pre-requisites: You need to know how to use a computer & be comfortable working online. Part 2, An Introduction to Design is required*. Web Essentials Basics is strongly recommended.
*If you are comfortable with HTML & CSS, you can skip part 2 with the Instructors OK.

The goals are:

  1. Install a Content Management System that fits your needs.
  2. Customize the website using basic CSS.
  3. Create a website, blog, or shopping cart that can be transferred to any hosting company meeting the system requirements.
